11th June 2017 – The Writers Workout

I started this a while ago and didn’t go anywhere with it, this will help with subjects for this challenge. I could cover allot of current events but I find that too depressing, I think I may have to find something good in the news to report on but for now I will continue with these little nuggets of gold…. 🙂

I am going to randomly pick a prompt from this book and then work it into the occasional blog post. I’m not doing too bad so far, 10 day into the month and I have managed to post something everyday. I am doing it at different times mind and I think it would build a better routine if I was able to do it at the same time each day, I may have to try this next week.

So – Writers Workout…..

Aim to earn

In this one its pointed out that allot of instructors will tell you to aim hight when you start writing for a job. This can put allot of pressure on you and you may falter as you are tryin gto go to high too fast. Christina suggests that starting at a level slightly above where you are now is more manageable.

Once you are comfortable and writing consistently then it is time to look at what you are doing and maybe asking for more money. You can progress steadily and then over a few years become successful.

But… Don’t become greedy, make sure you are being fair when asking for increases to your rates.

Sounds like good advice, I think sometimes I pigeonhole myself into only thinking about writing Fantasy or Sci-Fi. I need to try at more than this to widen my skillset. I have done the same with reading, sometimes picking up books that are not normally in my wheelhouse. I have done this with Dust by Mark Thompson, this is a coming of age type story in America, two young lads journey through life. It’s strange that it’s something completely different to what I would normally ready but I am enjoying it allot. I got the book from Waterstones, Northallerton from the Author who was there promoting his book. We had a good talk, it was nice that he gave the time to chat with me. He signed the book and wrote in the front “keep writing” 🙂

I’m trying 🙂
