The drawn-out dream

Lost

I was reading a writing article which talked about not ending your book with a cliché. The article then went on to list some of them. One of them struck a cord with me, this was the drawn out dream, meaning at the end of the book your protagonist wakes up and finds out the whole story was in a dream. It goes on to say that this is something you shoule never do and I cannot stress how much I agree. From the image above you can probably guess why….. yup I was a lost fan, and with the amount of questions that the show generated there was constant speculation on what was going on. The writers at different points came out to say/debunk vertain theories. One of the ones they came out to debunk was that they were not all dreaming or dead.

The show ends on schedule, I mean it isnt like they ran out of time. they knew when they were going to end and built up to it. Then what do you know they are all dead…..

To say I was pissed off would be an understatement, then to not answer several of the other questions of the show.

I have often said to people it should b written into contracts for tv series that if something is going to be cancelled they must tie up all of the outstanding questions as it is really frustrating to be left without any resolution.

One of my favourite programs ever is Dark Angel, James Cameron created this show and Jessica Alba and Michael Weatherly star in it. Based in post-apocalyptic Seattle it follows Max a genetically engineered bad ass fighting the good fight. It lasted two seasons and then was cruelly cancelled without finishing any of the storylines…. I was extremely angry when this was cut short without any resolution. I was hoping fr a TV movie or something but that’s not going to happen.

At least they didn’t wake up and realise it was all a dream, or all meet at some strange place when they were all dead!!!

That would be bad!
