I am a subscriber in three writing magazines and when I am reading through I am forever seeing advertisements for writing conferences or retreats. It’s frustrating as I really like the look of these but for someone like me they are out of my reach.
Most of them are down south, there don’t appear to be many in the Yorkshire area, and the other thing is cost, it’s a shame that I am in a well paid job but due to having kids for the last 17 years and other things I have quite a bit of debt. I manage this but it means I don’t really have much disposable income, so things like this are unavailable to me. The ones I seem to look at generally start at £150 no go upwards quite a bit….. a shame!
I know they are a business and they need to get the people there and charge to pay the speakers etc. It’s just a shame there isn’t something cheaper. Like the comiccon event that happen near me. I understand that they cost £15 because of the large numbers coming through the door.
A writing retreat isn’t going to get the same attendance, so its a shame they cost what they do. Maybe one day I will get to something like that.
