SciFi Shows where they visit worlds stuck in the past…..

I started watching Star Trek – Enterprise form the beginning again and although there have been a few episodes where there have been pre-warp civilisations the episode I am watching has Humans that are in a western like time period. Got me thinking of all the other ST episodes where there are things like this. In most of these cases the worlds have been like that for a long time usually, sometimes centuries.

How do these civilisations get stuck in periods like this, look at how far we have come in a relatively short time period, it seems in stories like that there is a distinct lack of progression. Seems unlikely.

I know it’s a daft question given its all fiction but still… then again,I suppose if I had my way there wouldn’t be a plot half the time as I consistently say plots wouldn’t happen.

One of my biggest bug bear with Star Trek (as some of my friends find funny) is the TNG episode where a federation phasing cloak is discovered and show to be fully working. It’s typical that plot devices like that appear and then are forgotten about. I somehow thing regardless of the treaty of Algernon when the Federation was at war with the Dominion or when they were fighting the Borg this would trump a treaty. Superior tech like this could have saved god knows how many lives!

Just in case anyone reads this and wants to tell me ST is fiction, I am well aware, just love it.
