Linux Commands – Nslookup

I have been “learning” Linux for some time now, but to get myself more familiar I have installed it on a Laptop I have and another pc. One of my file servers has also been installed with the command line only version, this is to force me to learn the commands and then to remember the information as I have to use it.

Tonight I needed to know the IP address of a machine on the network as Linux doesn’t like the hostnames, I had a quick look on the net and this time I managed to find what I wanted straight away.

The command is “nslookup” and it will tell you the Ip of any hostname connected to the network.

Example – sudo nslookup odin

I will post other useful tools as and when I find them.
