What makes me a writer, when will I truly consider myself a writer?

As long as I can remember I have written, although like all things I do it has been on and off and never with conviction. This was until a few years ago when I started to do so more and more. I spend more time planning and making notes than actual writing but still I am getting somewhere.

Last year I finally completed the NaNoWriMo challenge to write 50k words in one month. My “first” novel 13th Earth – Before the Dawn was born, many many years in the making. Still I hesitate to say I am a writer, I started this Blog and although I am not always consistent I am writing. Still I hesitate to call myself a writer.

You see, for me I know I am a writer, you could say “I write, therefore I am” or something as cliche as that. But I will never truly consider myself a writer until I have something published, it could be anything, magazine, website or the end goal, a book. But once a company or organisation has printed something of mine so it isn’t “self” publishing, like this blog. I will not fully consider myself a writer.

So I will keep writing, with the hope that I churn out a polished gem ready for publication…..

Maybe this years NaNo, Dragon Lords – The Return is the name of the project I am planning for. A fantasy tale which isn’t part of the main Sci-Fi universe, or at least not obviously, the idea of the universe I have started building is that everything site in ther somewhere, and there is a link between this and that universe, but it may not figure in the end product, but I know it is there.
