The group Defense Distributed in Austin, Texas has printed a 3D gun and successfully fired it.
It took them a year to develop and they have said that they plan to release the blueprints online.
Sure to be a massive warning bell for the manufacturing industry as 3d printing becomes more and more consumer friendly. Although a long way off it is a matter of time until the technology becomes mainstream and instead of a trip tot he shops we are buying plans for small items and printing them at home.
I’m sure Defense Distributed will have quite a few people looking at what they have done with interest, law enforcement agencies will be monitoring them and anti gun campaigners are criticising the project.
Although I know something like this is inevitable it will be interesting to see how they can monitor and regulate the making of weapons using the printers.
