For a long time I have been planning the Sci-fi universe in which I will be writing many stories, I like the idea of building a place where it can all happen. Even if they don’t intersect with each other, at least they are all in the same universe and if needed I can mix them when I choose, where events happen in books they can mould what happens in further books. I just like the idea, it has always intrigued me when other authors have done this with their books. The subtle way in which Stephen King does it in the Dark Tower series is really god. When you are there reading and there is a passing comment about Flag, or them passing through what is obviously the world of The Stand, I am sure there is also a mention of IT in there somewhere.
Anyway, I digress, the point was I like the idea of creating one large universe in which to centre all of my stories. But this leaves me with the issue of not being sure what to do with the Fantasy stories I have planned as normally they would be some kind of Human element, but if my universe is being used then they are a space faring race. I could just make the Fantasy stories different races altogether but I am not keen on that.
Procrastination
So this leads me back to procrastination, is this indecision just another way to sit around and do nothing while I decide what I want to do, maybe. A bit off topic but I recently read that I should be writing in a pad more, apparently this is good for creativity and will help me stay focused, it’s not like I don’t have enough pads, I cannot seem to stop myself buying them! There it goes again, getting in the way. Bloody procrastination.
So Fantasy or Sci Fi….. or a meld of both…. what to do…..
